Here's a recent poster assignment, finished this morning actually. It was generally well accepted at the crit, except for a couple issues- mainly dealing with type and design. The type doesn't quite fit well with the "feeling" of the illustration. Each font-face has its own unique character and suggests a mood. This is something I'm just beginning to grasp, so if you have any suggestions please post.
The play, written by Steve Martin, is a comedy set in a bar in Paris ca. 1904 starring both Picasso and Einstein. In the script they are both young and just beginning their careers. Picasso states at one point that he had a vision after he slept with a beautiful woman. He held a glass up to her body, and through the bottom saw her distorted figure. She was in fragments, but as a whole it was still her. This part held my attention and I thought it would make an interesting tie into an illustration.
Very nice, man! I love the concept behind it. Instantly recognizable as Picasso and very well executed.
